A coop you can walk into

Both coops are small buildings first. They use the same construction and materials as our storage buildings, with a walk-through door for you and a chicken door for the flock. The nesting boxes and roosting bars come built in, so you bring the birds, the feeder, the waterer and the bedding.

There are two styles. The 6x6 barn-style coop is $2,315. The 6x12 lean-to-style coop is $3,999.

6x6 barn-style coop

  • A short walk-through door
  • A chicken door
  • One window
  • Six nesting boxes
  • Three roosting bars

36 square feet under a barn roof. It suits a backyard flock that spends most of the day in a run or out in the yard and comes in to roost and lay.

6x12 lean-to-style coop

  • A tall walk-through door
  • A chicken door
  • Two windows
  • Eight nesting boxes
  • Four roosting bars

72 square feet, twice the floor of the 6x6, under a single-slope roof. The tall door means you can walk in standing up to clean out the bedding and collect eggs.

Sizing it to your flock

Common backyard rules of thumb are about 4 square feet of coop floor for each standard-size bird and one nesting box for every four or five hens. Bantams need less room and big breeds need more. Count your birds, run the numbers against both coops, and leave room for the flock to grow, since most flocks do.

A run is not part of the coop price. A 6x12 wire run made for these coops is on our price sheet at $1,999, so ask for it on the call if you want the run priced with the coop.

Setting it up

Pick a spot that drains, gets some shade in the afternoon and is easy to reach in bad weather, since you will be out there every day. Many towns limit backyard chickens or set distances between a coop and the property line or the neighbor's house, so check with your city or county before delivery day.

Delivery is free within 50 miles of a display lot, and past that the added charge is quoted before you buy. Before delivery we can send you a link to record a video walk of your property, so the delivery team can see the route and the spot. The crew levels the coop and sets it where you want it.

If you also need storage for feed and tools, a small lean-to shed starts at 5x7.

Paying for it

Cash, check, ACH or a major credit card works for the deposit or the full purchase. Rent-to-own is available too, with no credit check, no early-payoff penalty and a 12-month same-as-cash window. For a bigger order, traditional financing goes through partners like J Money Finance.

Warranty

Written coverage runs from the delivery date: five years of no-hassle coverage on everything, plus the component terms in the specification section below.

What every building includes

The same structure sits under all of it. These are not upgrades and they are not options. They are what the building is, before you have chosen a single thing.

Floor system
Treated 4x6 notched skids with the joists recessed into the skid, decked in 3/4" tongue-and-groove engineered flooring. The notch is what lets a building get moved later without racking the floor.
Framing
2x4 framed walls, ground-contact treated lumber through the entire floor system.
Siding and trim
Engineered lap siding with a shiplap edge, treated against fungal decay and termites and carrying a 50-year limited warranty.
Roof
7/16" OSB decking under the shingles, an aluminum drip edge on the eaves, and a vented ridge so heat and condensation leave at the peak.
Doors
Two adjustable tension rods per door to hold it true as the building ages, three heavy 6" hinges on the larger doors, and an aluminum threshold plate.
Fasteners
Ring-shank coated nails through the sidewalls, which hold as the wood swells and contracts through a season.
