Daylight from above
The studio is a single-slope building with a row of five transom windows set high under the roof line, four windows at eye level and an in-swing 6-lite Craftsman-style door. The walls are board-and-batten wood siding. Light comes in high and spreads across the room, which makes the studio a room you work in.
It comes in two sizes with the same layout: the 10x16 at 160 square feet for $7,999, and the 10x20 at 200 square feet for $9,999.
What the layout includes
- Five transom windows. A run of small windows high on the wall, for daylight without giving up wall space below.
- Four windows. Eye-level glass for a view out and light on a desk or a workbench.
- A 6-lite Craftsman-style door. A house-style door with six glass panes that swings in.
- Board-and-batten siding. Wide vertical boards with narrow battens over the seams.
The layout is fixed. You pick the size, and the windows, transoms and door come with it.
What people use it for
A home office away from the house. An art or pottery studio. A music room, a home gym, a reading room or a quiet room for calls. The windows and the house-style door are what make each of these comfortable, so plan the inside around where the light lands.
Finishing is a separate conversation. This page does not price electrical work, insulation or interior walls. If you plan to use the studio as an office, a studio or a guest space, say so on the first call and we will go through the options and the local rules together. A building used for work or sleeping is often treated differently from storage, so ask your city or county about permits before delivery.
10x16 or 10x20
The 10x16 holds a desk, a chair, shelving and a reading chair, or a single workstation with room to move around it. The 10x20 adds four feet of length, which is enough to split the room into two zones, such as a desk at one end and a seating area or an easel at the other. The step up is $2,000.
How it is built
The studio sits on the same floor system and framing listed in the specification section below. The siding is board-and-batten wood in place of the engineered lap siding shown there.
If you like the single-slope roof but need storage more than a room, the lean-to shed uses the same roof profile from 5x7 to 8x12. If you want a porch out front, the cabin comes with a six-foot porch, a 9-lite door and three windows.
Delivery
Delivery is free within 50 miles of a display lot, and past that the added charge is quoted before you buy. Before delivery we can send you a link to record a video walk of your property, so the delivery team can see the route, any overhead wires and the spot. The crew levels the building and sets it where you want it. Face the window wall the way you want the light to come in, and mark that side when you mark the spot.
Paying for it
Cash, check, ACH or a major credit card works for the deposit or the full purchase. Rent-to-own needs no credit check, has no early-payoff penalty and includes a 12-month same-as-cash window. Traditional financing is available through partners like J Money Finance, and you can start a financing application on the site.
Warranty
Written coverage runs from the delivery date: five years of no-hassle coverage on everything, plus the component terms in the specification section below. Read that table before you order, especially if the studio will see daily use.
Standard specification
What every building includes
The same structure sits under all of it. These are not upgrades and they are not options. They are what the building is, before you have chosen a single thing.
- Floor system
- Treated 4x6 notched skids with the joists recessed into the skid, decked in 3/4" tongue-and-groove engineered flooring. The notch is what lets a building get moved later without racking the floor.
- Framing
- 2x4 framed walls, ground-contact treated lumber through the entire floor system.
- Siding and trim
- Engineered lap siding with a shiplap edge, treated against fungal decay and termites and carrying a 50-year limited warranty.
- Roof
- 7/16" OSB decking under the shingles, an aluminum drip edge on the eaves, and a vented ridge so heat and condensation leave at the peak.
- Doors
- Two adjustable tension rods per door to hold it true as the building ages, three heavy 6" hinges on the larger doors, and an aluminum threshold plate.
- Fasteners
- Ring-shank coated nails through the sidewalls, which hold as the wood swells and contracts through a season.
Warranty
| 5 years | No-hassle coverage on everything, workmanship and materials |
|---|---|
| 50 years | Siding and trim |
| 50 years | Flooring |
| Limited lifetime | Shingle and metal roofing |
| 15 years | Paint |
| Lifetime | Treated lumber against decay and termite damage |
Not covered: storm damage, a tree limb falling on the building, or damage from debris left sitting on the roof.
