The Pittsburgh Paints Company, from Cranberry Township, PA

The Pittsburgh Paints Company (Pittsburgh Paints Co.) makes interior and exterior paints, stains, caulks, repair products, adhesives and sealants for professionals and do-it-yourselfers across the United States and Canada. It's headquartered in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania, about 20 minutes from Pittsburgh. For shed builders, the part of the business that matters most is its industrial line, which includes coatings made specifically for shed manufacturers. Brands, stores and color tools are on the Pittsburgh Paints Co. website.

From PPG's paint business to Pittsburgh Paints Co.

Until late 2024, this business was PPG's U.S. and Canadian architectural coatings division. American Industrial Partners completed its acquisition of the division on December 2, 2024, and the company took the name The Pittsburgh Paints Company. CBS News Pittsburgh reported the sale at $550 million. According to American Industrial Partners, the name goes back to 1897, when the original company began marketing paints designed to be both durable and visually appealing. Jaime Irick was named chief executive officer when the deal closed.

The portfolio that came with it is a long list of names most builders already know. The acquisition announcement lists Glidden, Olympic, Pittsburgh Paints & Stains, Liquid Nails, Manor Hall, Homax, TrueFinish, Mulco, Flood, Dulux (in Canada) and Sico. Those products are sold at The Home Depot, Walmart, Menards and Lowe's, through independent retailers, and through the company's own stores. Its March 2026 announcement puts that store count at more than 500 across the U.S.

Tru-Industrial and Tru-Shed MAX

On March 10, 2026, Pittsburgh Paints Co. introduced the Pittsburgh Paints Tru-Industrial line, a coatings brand for industrial applicators in transportation, building materials, sheds, trailers and heavy equipment. "This launch is an exciting opportunity for us to better serve the industrial coatings segment with new, innovative solutions," said Dennis Karnstein, president and general manager, commercial.

The line has three main sub-brands:

  • Tru-Solv MAX. Solvent-based coatings, from quick-dry enamels to two-component epoxies and urethanes.
  • H-Tru-O MAX. Water-based, low-VOC coatings for harsh environments.
  • Tru-Shed MAX. Coatings made for shed builders, backed by a shed program that supports manufacturers with local stores, stock and service.

Beyond those three, the Tru-Industrial portfolio covers machine-applied and wood coatings, powder coatings, pretreatment products, solvents and sundries, and touch-up products. Builders who want a product demonstration can request one through the Tru-Industrial contact form on the company's site.

What they told shed builders on the podcast

Pittsburgh Paints came on the Shed Geek Podcast for "A Finish Is a Promise: Protect the Brand on Every Shed," Season 6, Episode 9, published January 21, 2026. The conversation covers the rebrand and the industrial division's focus on how manufacturers actually work. The show notes list these topics:

  • Airless application on pre-primed siding, and one-coat hide on hard-to-cover whites.
  • Waterborne transparent urethanes that give a stained look without slowing the line down.
  • Why air movement beats heat when drying water-based systems, and how to set up fans.
  • A 50 percent spray overlap to get rid of zebra striping.
  • Cutting on-hand paint inventory by relying on local stocking and next-day lead times.
  • Store-level quality control so every batch matches, and a quick drill mix before painting and touch-up.
  • Reps who bring their own rigs and paint alongside your crew, and a warranty tailored to the manufacturer's own brand promise.

Jamie White and Ruthanne Hanlon from Pittsburgh Paints came back for "Color Choices Shape What Buyers Notice First," Season 6, Episode 36, published April 8, 2026. It's all about color on a sales lot: how often to update a palette, why dropping colors that don't sell can raise sales, and how flipping body, trim and door colors makes a short list of paints feel like a much bigger offering. They also talk about working around the limited colors of pre-painted metal roofing, using stains and urethanes for contrast, why black became a top seller, and how regional palettes can set a coastal lot apart from a mountain market. Listen to Color Choices Shape What Buyers Notice First. That episode is the video embedded above.

Pittsburgh Paints has also been listed among the show's sponsors on episodes throughout 2026. The full archive is on the Shed Geek Podcast page.

The 2026 Color of the Year

Pittsburgh Paints Co. named Warm Mahogany (PPG1060-7) its 2026 Color of the Year. The company describes it as a rich red with brown undertones, and says it works for interiors and exteriors, whether a whole room is painted in it or it's used as a highlight.

Finishing the rest of the building

Paint is the first thing a buyer sees on the outside. Inside, LuxGuard rubber flooring is a floor upgrade built for sheds, and an identiGROW nameplate puts the builder's name on the finished product. For the selling side, Shed Geek Marketing runs ads, local search and lead funnels for shed businesses, and Shed Geek consulting works one-on-one with shed business owners. Suppliers can reach the same audience through the Shed Geek media kit. To see finished buildings, browse Shed Geek Structures inventory.
